I have a picky eater. What can I do?
1. Include my child. My child can help me prepare food, cook, bake, create the menu, grocery shop, and work in the food garden.
2. Provide variety. Serve my child their preferred foods next to a single non-preferred food regularly.
3. Keep the pressure low to eat. I am in charge of when and what my child can eat. My child is in charge of whether and how much they will eat.
4. Serve family-style. We eat all together at least 1x/day with all the foods on the table. My child scoops foods onto all of our plates.
5. Say “no” to grazing. My child only eats every 2.5-3 hours and my kitchen closes for play and learning times.
6. Schedule a feeding evaluation. Contact our Milestones pediatric occupational therapy team to learn more and gain support for your family.
